WCAG 2.1 Level AA
Our target conformance standard
Our Commitment to Accessibility
Keystone Freedom Academy (“KFA”) is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to all users, including individuals with disabilities. We believe that everyone — regardless of ability — deserves equal access to information about our school, programs, and enrollment process.
As a special education school serving students with diverse learning needs, accessibility is not just a legal obligation for us — it is a core value. We strive to make our digital presence as inclusive as our classrooms.
We welcome feedback from users who experience any barriers on our site and are committed to addressing issues promptly.
Accessibility Standards
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including those with:
- Visual impairments (blindness, low vision, color blindness)
- Hearing impairments (deafness, hard of hearing)
- Motor and physical disabilities (limited fine motor control, tremors)
- Cognitive and learning disabilities (dyslexia, ADHD, memory impairments)
- Speech disabilities
- Neurological conditions and seizure disorders
WCAG 2.1 is organized around four principles: content must be Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust (POUR).
Accessibility Features on This Site
We have implemented the following accessibility features across our website:
Readable Typography
Clean, high-contrast fonts with generous line spacing and scalable text sizes that respect browser zoom settings.
Color Contrast
Text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratio requirements (4.5:1 for normal text).
Keyboard Navigation
All interactive elements — links, buttons, forms, and menus — are fully operable via keyboard without requiring a mouse.
Alt Text for Images
All meaningful images include descriptive alternative text for screen reader users. Decorative images are marked appropriately.
Focus Indicators
Visible focus outlines are maintained on all interactive elements so keyboard users can track their position on the page.
Semantic HTML
We use proper heading hierarchy (H1–H4), landmark regions (nav, main, footer), and ARIA labels where appropriate.
Responsive Design
The site adapts to all screen sizes and orientations, supporting mobile users and those who zoom in significantly.
Descriptive Links
Link text is descriptive and meaningful out of context — we avoid generic labels like "click here" or "read more."
Assistive Technology Compatibility
Our website is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:
- Screen Readers: NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), TalkBack (Android)
- Voice Control: Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Voice Control (macOS/iOS)
- Keyboard-Only Navigation: Full site navigation without a mouse
- Browser Zoom: Content remains usable at up to 200% zoom
- High Contrast Mode: Compatible with Windows High Contrast and browser-level contrast settings
- Text-to-Speech Extensions: Compatible with common browser-based TTS tools
We test our site using a combination of automated tools (such as axe and Lighthouse) and manual testing with screen readers and keyboard navigation.
Known Limitations
While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, we acknowledge that some areas of our site may not yet fully meet all accessibility standards. Known limitations include:
- Third-Party Video Content: YouTube videos embedded on our site are subject to YouTube's own accessibility features. We encourage users to use YouTube's built-in caption and accessibility controls.
- PDF Documents: Some linked PDF documents (such as the school calendar and child safety kit) may not be fully accessible. We are working to provide accessible alternatives. Please contact us if you need an accessible version of any document.
- Third-Party Platforms: External sites linked from our website (Amazing Raise, Gideon Math & Reading, etc.) are governed by their own accessibility policies.
We are actively working to address these limitations. If you encounter a barrier not listed here, please let us know.

Ongoing Improvements
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time project. We are continuously working to improve the accessibility of our website through:
- Regular automated accessibility audits using tools such as axe, Lighthouse, and WAVE
- Manual testing with keyboard navigation and screen readers
- Staff training on accessible content creation and web practices
- Incorporating accessibility requirements into all future website updates and redesigns
- Reviewing and acting on user feedback about accessibility barriers
